THE CLIENT
Lifestyle Bakery is a market leader in gluten free bread and baked goods.

OVERVIEW
I had the pleasure of refreshing the packaging for all of Lifestyle Bakery's consumer products including bread, hot cross buns, pizza and breadcrumbs. There were a number of technical constraints to consider when designing the packaging: the restricted number of colours available, packaging material, colour vibrancy, legibility of copy, minimum barcode size, nutritional size regulations and most importantly, shelf presence. For the final designs, I brought the main details to the bottom third of the packaging, as research revealed this area was consistently most visible when stacked on a shelf. Print testing also revealed using spot colours maximised the vibrancy of colour on the plastic, ensuring stronger brand recognition. Since the new-look products were released in supermarkets, product demand has soared.

PROGRESSION OF BREAD PACKAGING DESIGN 2015—2018
In 2015, Lifestyle Bakery moved from tie-top bags to resealable bags. This transition required changes to the existing design as the new printing area was much smaller, everything that was once on the back of the bread bag, including the nutritional details, was brought to the front.

The most recent packaging update coincided with the release of their new Soft 'n' Light bread range. Lifestyle Bakery wanted more of their product visible from the front of the packaging so consumers could see how truly 'Soft 'n' Light' it is. Already tight on space, this was resolved by bringing everything to the centre to reveal the entire loaf along the sides.
